The Hierarchy of Potential Locations

When you lose something, the places you look are always in the same order:

1. Where it belongs.
2. Where you probably had it last.
3. Where you can picture leaving it.
4. Places you have been, where you remember having it.
5. Places near places you have been, where you remember having it.
6. Places you have been, even if you don't remember having it there.
7. Places near places you have been, even if you don't remember having it there.
8. Places you can picture it, even if you've not been there lately.
9. Places you can't picture it.
10. Places in which it would fit.
11. Places in which it would fit if someone forced it.
12. Places it wouldn't fit (just in case it's no longer in one piece).
13. Repeat locations 1 thru 12.
14. Places it could not possibly be.
